03.31.24 - Meditation to Soften
Hello friends.
You know, I started 2023 (yes, last year) with a desire to soften up, so to speak. I wanted to slow down and soften. Slowing down is always on my mind because life always feels a bit rushed to me. Taking a moment to even feel myself pick up my cup of coffee, take in the way my foot meets the earth when I walk, etc... Those make a big difference in how I meet the world.
But softening... This is a different journey for me. I have felt for most of my life like it has been important on some level to build some armor. Protection against something always felt necessary. Softening last year culminated in a week of crying in the high desert of Santa Fe. My teacher and friend gave me a joking, "be careful what you wish for." But we both knew it was necessary, all the tears and the softening. My view has been deeply changed since that week and my year of inviting softness in.
I woke up this morning with this sense of needing to revisit this. So today, I hope this meditation is an invitation to you. I have often called meditation "the great tenderizer" because if you let it do its work, you will find yourself meeting other people and the world in a different way. I wish this for you in the best way possible.
